A limited run of ‘Rags’ CDs are now available on prior to going on mass sale on the 6th March across the Netherlands. It is available to buy online from the shop.
You can pay via paypal, or a myriad number of credit and debit cards.

If you live in the Netherlands, I urge you to go down to your local record store and buy it from there on the 6th, but if you live elsewhere and want a copy then go ahead!

Another day, another video to share!

I’m staying with the writer and film maker Mathhijs van der Ven at the moment, in his attic flat with his steep stairs and his wonderful lady Rachel. He said we could go for coffee if we first recorded a song… so we trapsed out in the frozen and I sang a song called variously ‘Hills‘ or ‘The Hills‘ – no difference really.

Anyway, enjoy.

Way way back, Matthijs van der Ven filmed me playing the song ‘Rags’ it was pretty much the first time that I’d played it and i was quite unsure of what words I sing. It also seemed an appropriate name for the new album, so thats what I called it.

I’m pleased to announce that my third record ‘Rags’ will be released in mainland Europe on the 20th February 2012 on Smoked Recordings / Munich. It will be available here, there and everywhere, including itunes, Amazon etc. You will also be able to buy it directly from me.

I’ll be doing a few shows come April time, but more on that later.

Moonshiner – video!

The videos from thetraditionals.com just keep on coming! I recorded a second song, Moonshiner, whilst in the ice house in the Netherlands and it was put on the cd as a bonus track. It was also filmed, which I’d completely forgotten about. I’d never played an electric guitar before on a recording, and so it threw me for a while, and I was more than a little nervous about getting it half right.

There is much dispute apparently over the origins of the song, at least according to wikipedia, all I know is that loads of people have played it, my favourite being the wonderfully falling one by Cat Power

Rags Mastering…

Finally, finally, after the juggling around of various dates and commitments we have a mastering date in the diary for Rags.

We will be mastering on the 20th June at the Green Door Studios up in Glasgow. Les Johnson (aka Kenny MacDonald) will be studying the charts, while Sam Smith will be at the helm. It means I have a little over two weeks to suss out the running order, which I am still umming and ahhing over.

If you are wondering why I’m nautical in reference, I am reading a book about whaling and the lost ship the Essex.

In celebration of the release of the new Traditionals album (available here) In a Cabin With and Onder Invloed have launched THETRADITIONALS.COM. The site includes video performances of all of the songs and artist interviews / blogs about the songs that they performed. The website really is a beautiful thing, and hopefully gives people an insight into the project and the way the recordings went.

A True Story by Bee For Battens

On the weekend I took a trip along with my delightful. We went and said hello to Mick Minogue and Anne Keenen who were running their own version of a flea market in Kilkenny at their wonderful gallery, The Little Ghost gallery.

Whilst there (and amidst much fun playing with Kendama) Mick mentioned he’d just finished a short video project for Bee for Battens with Albert Hooi. Battens shocks me, to all those who live with, deal with or raise for you have my total respect and admiration.
