Davie Lawson

Davie Lawson : BIOG

Since Davie Lawson's debut album "Konichiwa?" came out in the summer of 2007 this talented songwriter has enjoyed a growing reputation in the Benelux.

Born in the 1980s borderlands of Wales, Davie spent most of his childhood ransacking his father's enormous bootleg Bob Dylan collection. A time spent at Glasgow Art School saw him into his early twenties and a summer or so in the wilderness of work bought him an unwanted collection of ties and trousers. That time wasn't to last, and soon enough he'd ended up in the Netherlands playing music. He now lives in the UK again after periods in Amsterdam and Dublin. He tours regularly in the Netherlands.

"Konichiwa?" is direct yet unforced, and has something quintessentially British about it. Some people likened it to hearing a young John Cale or a lost cousin of Nick Drake. Dan Tuffy, who produced the album, says "When he first came out to the studio I was astonished at the sheer volume of his paper work. Piles of lyrics, musings and short stories stacked thicker than a London phone book. The kids not a singer, I thought, he's a writer. For he'd recklessly sort through reams and reams of the stuff before saying "Ah, this ones not bad, let's have a go getting this down""

Early 2008 saw Davie's reputation grow further, as he opened up for his friend Lucky Fonz III on a high profile tour of the Netherlands, performing in some of the country's most prestigious venues. He was also included on a compilation release by the Amsterdam Songwriters Guild, with whom Davie has close ties.

In 2008 Davie has also been back in the studio to record his second album. Now at the mixing stage this new work ushers in a bigger sound from a more assured artist. It is scheduled for release in 2009.
